Background of the Study
Religious leaders play a significant role in shaping public opinion and influencing social behaviors, particularly in areas where religion holds a central place in the daily lives of citizens. In Jama’are Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State, religious leaders have historically been influential in mobilizing voters, guiding their political choices, and encouraging civic participation (Umar & Garba, 2024). This influence is particularly potent because many voters in the region look to religious figures for moral guidance on political matters, making the role of religious leaders crucial in both increasing voter turnout and shaping electoral outcomes (Sa’ad & Ibrahim, 2023). However, while religious leaders can play a positive role in encouraging voter participation, their involvement in politics also raises concerns about religious polarization and the potential for undue influence on voters' choices. This study seeks to assess the role of religious leaders in voter mobilization in Jama’are LGA, focusing on how they impact electoral participation and the implications of their political involvement on democratic processes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
The involvement of religious leaders in political campaigns and voter mobilization in Jama’are LGA has become a subject of concern, especially regarding the extent to which their influence impacts voters' political choices and the overall electoral process. While they have been instrumental in encouraging voter participation, questions remain about the ethical implications of religious involvement in politics and its effects on electoral fairness. This study will examine the role of religious leaders in voter mobilization in Jama’are, investigating both the positive and negative impacts of their involvement.

This study will focus on the role of religious leaders in voter mobilization in Jama’are Local Government Area, Bauchi State, particularly during the 2023 elections. The study will be limited to assessing the involvement of religious leaders in encouraging voter participation. Limitations include the potential for biased reporting by religious leaders and the difficulty in measuring the direct impact of religious involvement on voter decisions.
